Bereaved Parents

Wings for the Journey

Purpose

A group that provides education and support for anyone who grieves the death of a child.

Background

Perhaps no loss has greater potential to devastate a family than the death of a child. Many families have experienced this trauma first-hand.

Some people find support from family and friends. Others seek out the assistance of clergy or others in professional counseling. A few make bad choices (alcohol and substance abuse, leaving the family, quitting their job, etc.) in a futile attempt to cope. A number find help in meeting with others who have experienced a similar loss.

Maybe no other person has greater potential to support a family with their grief around the death of a child than someone who has walked in those same shoes.

Who? What? Where?
Parents especially, but also family members who have experienced the death of a child. Current members include those who lost a child in infancy, childhood, adolescence, late teens, and early adulthood. Time since the death of the child ranges from a few months to a number of years. A grief support group for families who have lost a child to accident or illness has developed in Bartholomew County. There is no cost and pre-registration is not required. The group is on-going, so a person may begin attending at any time. First Baptist Church
